In the Greenlandic tradition, March 21st is the beginning of the New Year: after the long darkness of winter, the sun shines again for the first time on the ‘belly button of Mother Earth’ – the North Pole.
As a child I received my first medicine, the wing of a snow bunting – Qupaloraarsuk; for us she is the first sign that spring is coming, as the swallow is for you. Thus I also received the task to announce the beginning of a new era, and I have been accomplishing that responsability until now.
It’s high time to melt the ice in our hearts and to live in harmony with Mother Earth. – Angaangaq
After his lecture we’ll celebrate a ceremony in circle with Angaangaq. If you want, bring a drum and/or rattle.
